I found these lovely red chilies at an organic food store and I thought of making chutney with it. You will love this chutney if you like spicy food, and yes you can use this as chili paste for your curries ! Enjoy and let me know how it turns out !
Ingredients:
- 15-20 ................. red chilies
- 1 lemon sized ...... tamarind ball ( or substitute with 1 tbsp vinegar)
- 1.5 tsp ................ jaggery (or substitute with 1.5 tsp sugar)
- 8-9 cloves ........... garlic
- 1 tsp ................... cumin seeds
- 1 tsp ................... sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp ................. olive oil
- salt to taste
Method:
- Soak tamarind ball in water for 15 minutes.
- Chop the chilies into big chunks.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, garlic, soaked tamarind ball, chilies, sesame seeds and salt.
- Saute till the chilies are soft. Turn off the heat and set it aside to cool down.
- Once the mixture has cooled down, add the mixture to a blender. Add jaggery and remaining 1 tbsp oil. Grind it till you get a smooth paste. If you must add water to get a smooth consistency, add the water in which you had soaked the tamarind.
Tip:
You can use vinegar instead of tamarind and sugar instead of jaggery.
Adjust the seasoning according to your taste.
