Glosarry of Terms

Here is a list of common cooking terms used in this blog and their english/western equivalents. I will keep updating this list often. If you want to add any term to this list, just leave a comment:

aloo = potato
baigan = eggplant, aubergine
besan = gram flour
capsicum = bell pepper
elaichi = cardemom
makai / bhutta = corn
chilli powder = cayenne pepper
cornflour = cornstarch
french beans = green beans
hing = asafoetida powder
imli = tamarind
jeera = cumin seeds
kadai = skillet
rai = mustard seeds
shaak = curry, vegetable
maida = cake flour / pastry flour / refined flour
